Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Ephesians 1:3
There are a couple of key words or phrases in this Bible verse that have never popped out at me until recently. The phrase “has blessed” and the word “every” have always been there; I (and many others) have apparently missed them. Well, no more, because they have had such a profound meaning in my life.
If you say, “I have been to McDonalds and have tried everything on their menu,” it would seem silly for you to then ask me if I can take you to McDonalds to experience it for the first time. You’ve already been there!! Likewise, it would be silly of me to ask if you’ve had their McNuggets, because you just told me you’ve had every item on their menu.
In our spiritual walks, it works the same way. Sometimes, we BEG God for patience or strength or the will to break an addiction, when we are told that God has ALREADY blessed us. Furthermore, He’s blessed us with EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ!
When Jesus was in Samaria, he met a woman by a well, and they had a conversation, where He told her:
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14
Jesus said plainly that His provision is a spring of water within us, and that we will never thirst. He has already poured everything into us. We will NEVER have to ask for water again! Do you see the theme here? When Jesus said, “It is finished,” He meant it! His sacrifice forever changed our spirits, and our acceptance of Him opens us up to receive everything, all at once, a well of living water that never runs dry.
Of course, as you know, a well without a bucket does no good, and having water but not drinking it does no good either. So how do we draw out the water in our spirits and drink of it?
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
There it is; God’s instructions for you in one sentence. We must thank Him for what He has given to us, even in the storm. We must pray and develop a relationship with Him. And we must find the good in our daily lives, because God has already blessed us; we just need to start looking for those blessings. Just as our salvation comes through believing and accepting, seeing the fruit of God’s presence in your life merely depends on you believing what He’s said, and accepting it as truth.
This is a time of personal struggle, but you are not forsaken. You have not been left behind. You possess within you every spiritual blessing that God has ever given anyone. Love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:23). You no longer have to ask for these things; they are already yours. Stand strong in that knowledge; give God thanks for those gifts; and call them out into your life. You already have these fruits, and they are ripe for the pickin’.
