This was one of our wedding songs in 1982.

My late husband and I had songs for each other. Our marriage was the second for both of us and we were both the spouses who got left for someone else, as the songs reflect.  His song for me was "You Make Me Feel Brand New" by the Stylistics (yeah, that's going a long way back) and mine for him was "Honestly" by Strypper (could be spelled incorrectly).  "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers became special to us because our kids were involved in sports and the band.  For an entire school year, we listened to the practice of it, and then the performance of it, every Friday night.  The band director always introduced it as the "immortal" "Unchained Melody."  So years later, if we heard it, one of us would mention her words.  Now, to hear it both makes me smile and brings tears to my eyes.

I wish I knew what to say to influence people who are thinking of giving up on their marriages, to think again.  I think, after becoming a widow, my tolerance of couples not appreciating the good things they have in their marriage, and focusing on problems, petty or otherwise, has hit rock bottom.  If I could just let them feel for a moment, the pain of the tearing asunder of what has become one, maybe they'd rethink......some things (for lack of a better word at the moment) are irreplaceable.

But I don't give up easily.....
