Can anyone share your experience in raising a child that is ADHD? I have a son, who is now 22 years old, and still struggles with focus and understanding the results of his actions. Looking for insight to this. Thanks!

I have a friend with a child that MD's labeled ADHD. The drugs weren't helping and had negative side effects. What they said really helped was:

1. Omega 3 Fish Oil (more than dosage listed on bottle)
2. Sugar reduction (soft drinks, deserts, etc.)
3. Exercise

That helped them and I've read about those three things really helping ADHD, ADD, depression and health in general. I hope that's helpful.

Do you know how this works on adults?

Yes, for adults. According to the research, exercise and Omega 3 fish oil (in large doses) is as effective as the drugs they've tested it against. That's for depression and ADHD/ADD.

One other thing is sunlight exposure. Clinical studies have shown that exposure to sunlight is actually more successful in treating depression than the drugs. Apparently a vitamin D deficiency contributes to depression and the best way to get vitamin D that is usable by the human body is by sunlight exposure. Sunburning is bad of course, but exposure to the sun to where your skin becomes a mild pink is enough to get vitamin D in your system....but don't bathe for at least a few hours after because the way that it works is that the sunlight causes your body to convert cholesterol into vitamin D which your skin then absorbs into the bloodstream. So if you bathe before it's all been absorbed you're washing away the vitamin D which is not good.

Hope that helps. Remember, I'm not a medical doctor (but all this stuff comes from what actual medical doctors have stated) but then again many of those good folks are so busy seeing patients they don't have time to study this stuff.

I certainly am not a physcian nor is any of my research in the area of physical health. Therefore, understand that most of my knowledge comes from listening to the channel designed specifically for medical professionals on XM radio. (They keep running a piece that says it is only for medical professionals and if anyone else listening they must not take what is being said as a substitute for seeing their own doc, etc.)

With that said, not long ago I heard a specialsist discussing research on Vitamin D. He said that no one living north of Atlanta can get enough Vitamin D from the sun. I had my doc check my Vitamin D level, which should be a minimum of 30, and it was 17. That led the doc to checking his and his was low as well. It's nearly an epidemic. Vitamin D helps the immune system and so many other things your body needs. Therefore, I now buy the Nature's Bounty D-5000 and take one each day. It is a gel type pill -- looks like a small fish-oil capsule -- that gives 5000 IU. I've already talked with two M.D.s who recommend that I take at least 5000 IU per day, so I'll just take one of these every day from now on. The most recent research indicates that we likely should have a D level somewhere in the 80 range, and I started 17, so I have a ways to go.
